New to New Orleans, a few years ago, via London and New York, I was impressed and delighted to find so many stylish and fashionable women here. You love to talk fashion and have fun with fashion and so do I. One day during an intense 'heels' debate, I realised so many of us are having funny and entertaining conversations on the topic, that it would be fun to share them on a blog.
So here we are today. All The Froth is meant to be, is a place for musings on our dearly beloved topic. Quick, pithy and hopefully a little witty as well. A little sweet, light froth on the top of your, no doubt, onerous to do list. I hope it'll make you smile, if it does, please become a 'follower', give feedback and tell your friends/family!
For now, "Froth" is a pop-up, which I'll post weekly until Christmas (that's a (im)perfect? 10 weeks! If I find myself alone, in cyberspace, talking to me, I'll say thanks for the memory and devote myself more diligently to organising my children's wardrobes and finally break my label maker out of its packaging! For now, the more of us, the merrier we'll be, so follow if you can!
So many of us have busy, exhausting and serious lives and fashion is just a way to have fun and let off steam. I've always believed that, which is why on more than one occasion, I've ended up wearing aluminum foil instead of a dress to a party. Really want to see a photo?
Each Froth will consider one Burning Issue: today's is - The Starter Heel (SH)
So we've all been in flats FORever or at least most of us have (except my fab friend Michelle). We can't help it, they are so comfortable, we can slip them on and off and we don't fall over in them when little Charlotte makes a break for it in the supermarket car park.
But there has to be an end to it. Haven't we all found ourselves in our best dresses, at lovely parties in FLATS!? It doesn't matter how many sparkly bits are on them or how shiny the leather, they are and always will be, FLATS.
So what to do? First, let's remind ourselves of a golden rule. No matter how tall from tiny Kylie Minogue to mighty Naomi Campbell, everyONE looks better in heels. Not only that, but everyTHING looks better in heels: our ankles, legs, thighs, tummies, arms, necks and noses! Until a catwalker comes down the runaway in a pair of ballets, then this truth holds fast.
Now talking of runways, most of us can't, like the models, put on one of the 'all the rage' pair of 6"/7" heels. If you can, WELL DONE. If not, we need a segue, a way in, a staging post.
The Answer = The Starter Heel (SH)
This wonderful thing is between 2" - 3". It preferably has a round toe and even a little platform at the front, so the lift in the arch is reduced. This wonderful thing might be hiding in our closets from pre-mummy days or before Tory Burch took our toes hostage. This wonderful thing starts to retrain our calves and minds. We start to enjoy walking taller, our outfits look better and when it comes to reaching for the real 6" towering infernos of a heel, we can do it, if only for a few hours on one night of the weekend, we can do it again because we've been training! We've had NLP for our feet!
I have found such a perfect SH. It's silver so it goes with everything, it's not too pricey and it's truly comfy. Almost a miracle shoe. However, hate to say it, but it comes from Oxford St, London. But don't despair, there must be somewhere, within green envy spitting distance, that has such a shoe and I promise as soon as I hear of any, I'll let you know.
Forthcoming Burning Issues:
- When is it too late (in life) for leather?
- The Shoe / Boot Nightmare?
- Looking like your A Game Everyday
- A Carrie Closet in five easy steps!
- Dare to Bare Toes?
LOVES: Some kind of embellishment for Christmas & chunky gladiator heels (even La Burch's)
LOATHES: Ridiculous '80s baggy trousers with bands at the waist and heels (I mean really)
LIKE WHO KNOWS?: Fashion's current boot schizophrenia - what the blazes?
Health Warning: I enjoy talking the talk, but I'm finding it much harder to walk the walk (with an extra 6") so don't shout me down in public if you see me in flats but do send me an email!
Reminder: Please sign up to follow and post comments, I REALLY want to know what you think!
THANKYOU FOR READING!
It's great Mirella. Can't wait till the next.
